Supertramp Classic Cut by CC Carmack

Supertramp Classic Cut by CC Carmack

John Helliwell celebrates his 68th birthday today. He’s still a member of Supertramp.

Supertramp: “The Logical Song”

The Hook: A most illogical place to record a sax solo, but it worked.

Year Released: 1979

Album: Breakfast in America

Writers: Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson

Stats: Went to number-six on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Background: Saxophonist John Helliwell tells us that the guitar, piano and drums were all set up at the same time in different parts of the recording studio and isolated from each other using baffles. His saxophone was so loud, though, that he need to be in a different room. So he recorded his famous solo sitting on the toilet in the studio’s bathroom.
