BOSTON, Mass. – A Clarksville man is among the 36,000 runners signed up for today’s Boston Marathon – the second largest field ever to attempt the 26.2-mile course.
Speaking on Ryan and Gretchen in the Morning on Q108, Matt Heiser said he has no reservations about being in Boston and that many of those returning to the event are doing so with more resolve than ever. “You’re not going to stop us from doing something that’s been around for such a long time,” he said.
A year after the deadly bombings at the finish line, organizers and city officials have tightened security to protect runners and the larger than usual crowd expected this year. Heiser, who owns Legend’s Electric in Clarksville says the extra security measures are visible but not intrusive and that he feels “Boston is the safest place in the country right now.”
