ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. – A large fire destroyed a restaurant and two apartments Friday morning in Ashland City.

WKRN News 2 reports that the fire at The V Tavern on River Rd. began around 2 a.m. Firefighters evacuated a home near the restaurant and two upstairs apartments. A resident of the home next door said the heat of the fire caused the windows to break.

Those inside had trouble getting out because the floor was so hot that it was bubbling, and officials said the smoke detectors likely saved their lives.

Officials believe the fire started in a storage area behind the building. A cause has not yet been determined.
