Ailing Craig Sager’s son fills on NBA sidelines

GET WELL SOON: Craig Sager's son, Craig Sager Jr., filled in for his dad on the sidelines. Photo: YouTube

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Even people who don’t know a three-pointer from a triple-double know Craig Sager — even if they only know him as the guy who wears those crazy outfits when he does his sideline reports on TNT telecasts of NBA games.

Sager is missing the NBA playoffs this year as he undergoes treatment for leukemia.

Yesterday son Craig Junior filled in for dad as the San Antonio Spurs hosted the Dallas Mavericks.

Sager and Spurs coach Greg Popovich have often had terse exchanges during interviews. But Popovich was at ease with the younger Sager, even joking that the son had “great questions.”

Popovich wished the elder Sager well — and promised to “be nice” when he returns to work.
