LOS ANGELES (AP) — Matt Holliday hit a two-run homer and pinch-hitter Shane Robinson added a solo shot as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Dodgers 4-2 in Los Angeles to take a three-games-to-one lead in the National League Championship Series.

Holliday had been 0-for-12 in the series and hitless in his previous 22 at-bats at Dodger Stadium before his homer put the Cardinals ahead 3-0 in the third inning.

Winning pitcher Lance Lynn allowed two runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings to help the Cardinals get within one victory of their fourth World Series appearance in 10 season.

The Boston Red Sox have a 2-1 lead in the American League Championship Series after John Lackey pitched into the seventh and Mike Napoli homered in a 1-0 win over the Tigers in Detroit.

Lackey held the Tigers to four hits while striking out eight in 6 2/3 innings, but he needed Napoli’s seventh-inning blast in order to pick up the win.

Napoli’s home run came off Justin Verlander, who allowed just three other hits while fanning 10 in eight innings.
