A Punky Brewster revival is happening!!!

Cherie Johnson has signed on to join old friend, Soleil Moon Frye in reprising her original role in the “Punky Brewster” revival.

The revival of the 80s sitcom has been given a pilot order at NBCUniversal’s upcoming streaming service, Peacock, which is set to launch in 2020.

Johnson will once again play Cherie, Punky’s best friend since they were kids. NBCUniversal gives a show/character description, “To ‘Punky’s’ kids, she’s ‘Aunt Cherie.’ Her life-long friendship with ‘Punky’ inspired her to become a social worker, helping orphaned kids.”

In the revival, it’s a continuation of the original story of a bright girl raised by a foster dad, Punky is now a single mother of three trying to get her life back on track when she meets a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self, according to NBCU.

The pilot is written and executive produced by Steve and Jim Armogida, the guys behind “School of Rock” and “Grounded For Life.”  Soleil Moon Frye will also serve as executive producer along with original series creator David Duclon the guy behind “Punky Brewster,” “Family Matters,” “Silver Spoons.”

The Punky Brewster revival will eventually be available on NBCU’s new streaming service
