Clarksville water storage tank taken down

Since 1976, it’s welcomed many travelers to Clarksville and reminded them that they were entering the New South.  It held thousands of gallons of water for the people of Clarksville.  Now, it’s time to say good bye to our old friend after many years of inactivity.

The water storage tank has been inactive for 13 years, but according to Clarksville Gas & Water, they still had to maintain it and decided it was no longer viable to ever put it back in service.  It was also said that it cost $6,000 to maintain and required to do inspections every year.

Officials determined it was time to take the tank down.  Contractors began dismantling the tank, using torches and a cranes to take it down.  The company taking it away piece by piece and the parts will be used as scrap metal.

The hard work started Monday and is expected to wrap up by Thursday.

Good bye to Clarksville’s “welcome mat”
