Dirty Dancing sequel is announced

Jennifer Grey is ready to play the iconic role Frances “Baby” Houseman in a new sequel to the favorite ’80s film Dirty Dancing. The original was released in 1987 and was a huge hit!  A big announcement was made this week at CinemaCon, that an actress from the original cast will return to reprise their roles. Jennifer Grey!

There are no official details for the movie yet, although this might be a movie set in the 1990s, rather than one that picks up 35 years after the original. Way back in 2020, Grey was said to be working with Lionsgate, who will produce and distribute this film, on a ’90s-set movie in which she would star and serve as executive producer.

During a Lionsgate films presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, they described the plot as Baby, Jennifer Grey’s character, returns to Kellerman’s in the next chapter, a resort in the Catskills.”

As you may remember, that was the setting for the original Dirty Dancing and presumably one of the most important and influential summers and places in Baby’s life. It seems likely that by this point, it will be Baby who is serving as an instructor.

Let’s have fun a speculate here, do think it will be HER to fall for a new student? Or  maybe not…it really is anyone’s guess. As we all know at this point in our life, (didn’t realize when we were teeny boppers), that  part of the original has not aged as well as the rest of the movie, the age difference between Baby and Johnny.

I’m actually a little excited about this!!  I wonder if the soundtrack will be just as good!
