Gen X-er’s are good with social distancing

Many generations are dependent on a man’s understanding of his appointed purpose in life…I’m not certain the author of that quote, but it’s pretty good!  Generational stereotypes don’t apply to everyone, there are studies that suggest significant differences between how Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millenials and Gen Z were/are raised.

Most likely, Baby Boomers grew up in homes where mom stayed home and dad worked outside of the house.  Millennials grew up having over-involved or helicopter parents.  Gen Z…they’re realists, influencers, transparent and want something more than what they have.

Then, there’s Gen X.  According to a 2004 marketing study…Gen X-er’s went through their all-important, formative years as one of the LEAST parented, LEAST nurtured generations in U.S. history.”

I am a Gen X-er…we were the first generation to be born during the divorce boom, I had so many friends that were raised by single parents or in blended families.  We were the first generation to experience both parents working outside the home.  Since this was a new thing, daycare’s and after school programs wasn’t mainstream, so we had a generation of Latch Key Kids.

Us Gen X-ers were brought up with an almost uncultivated-style.  Meaning, go outside and come in when the street lights come on, going all over the neighborhood on bikes.  I think the majority of Gen-x’er’s have a keen coping mechanism.

We knew how to entertain ourselves, we knew the dangers of opening the door to strangers.  I think we were born for social distancing!
