The research found an increase in bad bacteria and decrease in good bacteria can contribute to the biomarker known as amyloid beta. The marker is more likely to be present in those with periodontal disease.
Researchers say there is a balance needed in bacteria to prevent the bad bacteria from building up. Researchers plan to continue to study by testing to see if deep cleaning can modify the biomarker and prevent Alzheimer’s disease.
