To double space after a period or not to double space after a period, that is the question!

I took a TYPING class in 1988, not a keyboarding class or computer class.  I’m saying, those rules on a typewriter are ingrained into my head.  It’s hard to forget when you loved the class.  I actually met a senior in that class that I would eventually go to dances and movies with, so yeah, he was my boyfriend for a hot minute.  That’s another story for another day!

This question has been on my mind for a few days!  I saw an article…well, actually I went down a deep, dark rabbit hole!

I guess I represent the article because I am over 40 and do double space.  I only double space because that what I was taught.  HERE is the article, “Nothing Says Over 40 Like Two Spaces After a Period”

Here’s my take…in this day and age of social media, platforms like Twitter, you only get a certain number of spaces to type your message.  I figure, double spacing isn’t necessary.  What about a formal letter?   I really haven’t found the answer to that question!  But I did find this on Google: “Unless you are typing on an actual typewriter, you no longer have to put two spaces after a period. Or a question mark. Or an exclamation point. The rule applies to all end punctuation.”

I guess that about answers the double space question!

Gen Zer’s and Millenials are poking at our double spacing!  Well, the Baby Boomer generation…I am Gen X.
